Little Whiskeys was originally designed to be a dancehall/music venue. Throughout the time I worked on this project it became a bar. The goal was to create a business concept and design the logo and a branding book for the venue. It was a challenge to design a western atmosphere without making it kitsch with typeface choices. Little Whiskeys became a classy, yet rustic western bar. Using images for inspiration, the essence of the bar was found. In the beginning, it was a softer-looking brand. After additional editing, it became bolder with sharp edges throughout the logo design and additional packaging items. This was accomplished by changing the typeface used and adjusting the style of the icons that accompany the branding.
This imagery represents the feeling LW’s should give when using photography.
Simple bold images with a Big Texas Southern feel. Images used in branding should contain the whole subject matter - they should not crop the subject matter. They should be in a simple color pallet, black and white or sepia tone.
While sketching I experimented with alignment and possible abbreviations and the use of a lettermark as a secondary logo.
A list was used to come up with ideas for symbols to go along with the branding and additional doodles were made.
During name ideation, I used a word matrix to combine things relating to country dancehalls and bars.
"One-Step Whiskeys" & "Whiskey One-Step" both reference a popular dance called One-Step.
"Whiskey Spin" again references dancing.
"Whiskey Dip" follows suit.
"Dancing Whiskeys" came from those ideas.
Eventually landing on "Little Whiskeys"
Frist digital round of logos:
in fear of being too kitsch, anything western-looking was avoided and the initial designs were very safe.
After the first round was a flop (but hey it's good to get bad ideas out) there was an attempt to make the lettermark look like barbed wire where the L crossed the W.
It did not end up reading as well as hoped so in later edits the lettermark was abandoned.
Again, playing it safe here with the logo typeface. The idea was to highlight the size difference between little and whiskeys.
The newer logo design steers away from the use of LW alone and uses size contrast to emphasize the word ‘little’ and differing typography for ‘WHISKEYS’ captures the rustic/edgy feel desired.
The moon was reincorporated inorder to keep the homey feeling.
New stationery with a simplified color pallet, cleaner design, and the new logo.
Additionally, a sweet little moon pen!
I am happy I was able to design some "little" drinks to go with this brand. Mini mixed canned drinks have become very popular especially in the last year so I felt that this Whiskey bar needed their own. I am also much happier with the final logo and typography.
