Tierra del Fuego is a branding and product design for a Silver & Anejo tequila. Tierra del Fuego meaning “Land of Fire” comes from South America's most southern tip also called “The End of The World”. True tequila comes from Mexico, so I wanted a Spanish name that had flair to it. It was difficult in the beginning to find a focal point within the design with so many required elements and wanting it to be flashy. For educational and creative purposes, the back of the label has a customized story for the different types of tequila and instructions on how to properly drink them.
When I made my moodboard I was thinking I wanted tons of illustrations or only typography all over the bottle. I ended up somewhere in the middle once I took to digital form.
Of course with the name I created, I ended up sketching a lot of flames and agave flames. I wanted something abstract but still recognizable as fire.
I drew a lot of inspiration from my moldboard with my initial sketches. Bold text all over the label and big flames.
Here are a few iterations of designs for the label.
I decided to change the typography used for the name of the tequila for an edgier look and feel. The logo got sharper points along with a light-colored stroke to make it pop off the label. Blowing the flame up and lowing the opacity helped the name TIERRA DEL FUEGO become the focal point. Centering all the text also helped this and gave the design a cleaner look.
Changing the background color of the labels is meant to differentiate the types of tequila further. Anejo is aged 1-3 years and Silver is less than a year and I made my color choices based on this. The Tequila darkens in color the longer it is aged and silver is usually very light, almost clear.
Tierra Del Fuego was a fun idea I got to run with. The most difficult thing was actually finding a tequila bottle mockup... but I made do with what I could find. I love how the typography turned out in the end and compliments the spiky-ness of the flame. My favorite part however was writing the little story of the Anejo & Silver and giving them their own personality. I learned a lot about tequila throughout this process.
I would love to expand this brand and add a line of canned mixed drinks.
